Walk to the school bus

a heartfelt dodoitsu poem

Photo by Joshua Hoehne on Unsplash

We lived in tandem each day
his growing up years were like
being on an age detox
with my sprightly boy

While walking to his school bus
the warmth of holding his hand
the tying laces ritual
before waving byes

He instructed me not to
talk to strangers going home
feel amazed at how he cares
takes me by his hand

His naughty eyes danced with mine
hoping a comic gesture
not realized I had de-aged
behind the fine lines

This Dodoitsu poetry challenge by Tree Langdon felt like a refreshing challenge to me. I thoroughly enjoy accepting prompt and poetic form challenges, and this one opened up my memory box.

I have learnt to be in a happy space since I started penning down my perspective as a poet and a writer.

you nailed the ending:
His naughty eyes danced with mine
hoping a comic gesture
not realized I had de-aged
behind the fine lines

May you continue to find reasons for age detox :) It made me smile.

This stanza made me smile. I recall a similar experience with a friend I grew up with. Thanks for joining the challenge.
